What’s the deal with SoundCloud, Vimeo, Instagram, Vine, and all those web applications that offer video and/or audio capabilities? If a person really wants to hear or see my work, they will come see me perform! I don’t need to market my talent like I’m auditioning for a pre-screening of American Idol.
Oh! Okay, Negative Nancy. How about no. The applications that are available to us now give everyone an opportunity to release an album, a funny joke, a performance, or a new musical score to the web. These applications are so advantageous that you’d be crazy not to get on the bandwagon! Take Soundcloud for example. Their mission for their artists is: “Whatever you create, wherever you are in your career, SoundCloud is for you.” Soundcloud is a free sign up for singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, podcasters, composers, and groups across many genres. You can upload your album artwork, share your work, and put it all over your social stories. If you go anywhere and get the chance to showcase your work in public, you can pull up all your work on your phone from the application!

Another great website for sharing little snip-its of your life with your audience is Instagram. (Previously on Artist Web School) When you do a show, make a post to your band Facebook page, or want to share a 15 second video from your upcoming YouTube release, share and tag your Instagram for more attention. This is where your audience can see the places you perform, the people you meet, and how your life revolves around your art. Instagram will not fully document your work; however, it is a great tool to generate picture content for your website.
